I travel to Edmonton a few times a year and have stayed at several hotels until I discovered the Westin in downtown Edmonton. I am in the hospitality business, I own a successful cake and pastry cafe and restaurant in Vancouver, so I have a good eye for genuine customer service. First of all the hotel is well located in downtown Edmonton, next to the main branch of the public library. The building is well designed with parking underneath and very well furnished. The guestrooms that I have stayed in are more than comfortable with the famous Westin Heavenly Sleep beds. There are large flat screen televisions in every room and the bathrooms are finished in marble with the best hotel showers I have experienced. One thing I would like to see in the rooms is free wireless internet. All of the staff that I have encountered have been beyond friendly and efficient, making sure that my stays have all been the best experience that they can be. The restaurant off the lobby on the main floor has excellent food and I usually end up taking a few of my meals there. There is a server named Czarina that has been with the hotel for 25 years, she is a real delight and knows how to take care of her guests. The only complaint I have about the restaurant is the last time I was there the chef had imposed a “no changes policy” on the menu. Not so guest friendly for those of us that are staying in the hotel, a detail I hope that has been re-thought. For quality, location, courteous and efficient staff all at a very reasonable price, the Westin Edmonton can not be beat.

The Westin Edmonton's downtown location was a very nice hotel, overall; my room was gorgeous, I loved the heavenly shower and king sized bed and the overall atmosphere of my room was very modern and relaxed. However, I was not informed of any underground parking fees when booking my hotel stay... instead, I was informed during check-in that it was $26.00 a night. I was a little bothered but there wasn't much I could do since I just drove 3 hours to get to Edmonton, was downtown, and just wanted to check into my hotel. Anyways, the second night of my stay, I decide to leave and find a $75.00 parking ticket on my vehicle. Of course, I know that the hotel will take care of this, but I am still a little frustrated that after all the work of registering my plate, (when I just wanted to settle in) I still got a parking ticket. So I left, and went to eat, but when I came back not only did I have to argue this parking ticket... there was no room in the underground parking! I had to park outside, all the way around back, in minus 25 weather.
